My
name is Mihaela Cuzuc and my son, George who is
2 and a half, was diagnosed with autistic syndrome 5 months ago. My husband, Gheorghe, is a
priest at
Maraseni, Stefan cel mare, Vaslui County and I
am an English teacher. We have two wonderful children – an
eight months old
girl and a boy, George, and until few moths ago, we were a very happy
family.
Unfortunately, this spring we got the terrible news that our older
child has
autism.
Autism
is not a mental illnesses, is a bioneurological
disorder which affects the functioning of the brain. Autism begins in
early
childhood and persists throughout adulthood; it causes lifelong
developmental
disability, including problems with communication, social interaction
and
physical activities. Autistic traits persist into adulthood, but vary
in
severity. Some adults with autism function well, others never develop
the
skills of daily living. At this time, the cause of autism is not known
and
there is no medication for it.
This disease
prevents individuals from properly
understanding what they see, hear, and otherwise sense. Children with
autism
are often described as "within themselves" and may seem to avoid
affection and love. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing
your child
suffering, having hysterical reactions, and there is nothing you can
do,
because he doesn’t accept you or he doesn’t seem to
need your love and
protection.
Because
of the type of autism
he has, there is hope for our son. The hope is ABA
therapy (Applied Behavioral Analysis), but we need 30000euros to
provide this
type of therapy in Romania. The 30,000 Euros (15,000 Euros per year,
for two years) represent the payment for the specialist form London, and
also the payment for the 4 students whom will work with George on a
daily
basis, under the specialist supervision.
It’s
extremely important to have at least half of
the sum
to sign the contract and the first payment toward the London
specialist for the first visit in Romania. This
visit is mainly for George’s evaluation and the set up the
first steps of the
therapy.
Please,
if you can help us, no matter how small the
sum, it’s in your power to give George a normal life.
Thank
you for your generosity.
With
gratitude,
Mihaela
and Gheorghe Cuzuc
